Hello from a quiet village in Bulgaria!

We’re a retired British couple who swapped the hustle of the UK for a slower, sunnier life in the beautiful Bulgarian countryside. These days we’re surrounded by rolling hills, sheep (lots of sheep), and the kind of peace and quiet you only dream about back home. Retirement has been wonderful, but we still wanted something meaningful to do — a little project that keeps us busy and, most importantly, keeps us connected to the UK.

That project turned out to be KokoMatch.co.uk — a dating website built purely for singles across Britain.

We know what you’re thinking: “A dating site run by a retired couple in Bulgaria?” Yes, really! And we promise it’s not as odd as it sounds.

From Britain to Bulgaria… and back to love

Like so many people, when retirement came knocking we started dreaming of a simpler life. We’d always loved travelling through Europe, and after a few trips to Bulgaria we fell in love with a tiny, almost-forgotten village in the heart of the country. One day we thought, “Why not?” — sold up, packed up, and moved.

Now we drink tea on the terrace, tend the garden, wave at the occasional tractor, and run KokoMatch with a view of the mountains. The internet here is surprisingly good (thank goodness), and the slower pace means we can give the site the care and attention it deserves.

Even though we’re 1,500 miles away, our hearts are still very much in the UK. Our family is there, our friends are there, and we still moan about the British weather (even when it’s 30°C here!).

Why we created KokoMatch

Over the years we watched online dating change — and not always for the better. The big apps became overwhelming: endless swiping, confusing algorithms, pushy upgrades, ghosting, and profiles that felt more like adverts than real people.

We missed the days when meeting someone online felt friendly, genuine, and a bit exciting — not like applying for a job or playing a game you can never win.

So we decided to build something different: a dating site that feels warm, safe, and properly British. A place where real people in their 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s+ can meet without all the nonsense. Honestly? We just liked it! It’s friendly, a bit quirky, easy to say after a glass of wine, and it makes people smile. In a sea of cold, corporate dating brands, we wanted something that felt warm and human — just like us.
